Biography

Hill became Applied Materials’ CFO in March 2022 and is also responsible for Global Information Services. Before joining Applied, he was executive vice president and CFO of Xilinx from April 2020 until its acquisition by Advanced Micro Devices in February 2022. Earlier, he spent 25 years at Intel in finance positions. His final Intel role was corporate vice president and CFO and chief operating officer of the Technology, Systems and Core Engineering Group. ([sec.gov](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/6951/000162828025056742/amat-20251026.htm)) Hill’s tenure at Applied has included managing finance during strong semiconductor-equipment demand as well as heightened export restrictions and industry cyclicality. In fiscal 2025, Applied reported record revenue of $28.37 billion, repurchased approximately $4.9 billion of stock and paid $1.4 billion in dividends; these actions were corporate decisions made during Hill’s tenure rather than solely individual initiatives. Problem areas / controversies

  • Applied’s finance organization has had to account for export-control headwinds; the company estimated that U.S. restrictions would reduce fiscal 2025 revenue by roughly $400 million. ([businesstimes.com.sg](https://www.businesstimes.com.sg/companies-markets/telcos-media-tech/applied-materials-falls-export-controls-weigh-outlook?utm_source=openai))
  • Applied reached a February 2026 settlement with the Commerce Department requiring a $252.5 million payment over alleged China-related export-control violations; the underlying shipments occurred before Hill became CFO, although the settlement was reached during his tenure. ([ir.appliedmaterials.com](https://ir.appliedmaterials.com/news-releases/news-release-details/applied-materials-reaches-resolution-us-department-commerce))
  • The company remains exposed to semiconductor-industry cycles, China-related restrictions and changing customer investment plans, all of which can make quarterly forecasting more difficult. ([sec.gov](https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/6951/000162828025056742/amat-20251026.htm?utm_source=openai))
  • No separate widely reported personal controversy involving Hill was identified; the principal concerns associated with his role are Applied’s corporate regulatory exposure and operating volatility.
