Is ACI-Albertsons Companies, a buy?

Sunday 23 August 2026

Why now: The stock is trading around $12.38 today after a notable move versus the prior close, but the longer-term setup is still more “turnaround in progress” than clean momentum. The timing edge is that the merger overhang has been largely resolved, shifting attention back to cash flow, capital returns, and execution.

Upside: Street target implies roughly high-single-digit upside from recent levels, and the longer-term upside case would come from stable cash flow plus sustained capital returns rather than rapid growth. The upside is most sensitive to margins holding up and leverage trending down over the next year.

Risks: The biggest risks are leverage in a low-margin business and margin pressure from competition, labor, and shrink. If operating performance softens, the dividend and buyback pace could become harder to defend.
